Pagan Prompt: Fogg's Theory of Magic @ 12:49 pm

ns_kumiho:

Sorry I missed last week.

A while ago I read Lev Grossman's The Magicians and this passage struck me as interesting (it's from Dean Fogg's musing lecture before Quentin's graduation from Brakebills):

"But I'll tell you something: I think you're magicians because you're unhappy. A magician is strong because he feels pain. He feels the difference between what the world is and what he would make of it. Or what did you think that stuff in your chest was? A magician is strong because he hurts more than others. His wound is his strength.
Most people carry that pain around inside them their whole lives, until they kill the pain by other means, or until it kills them. But you, my friends, have found another way: a way to use the pain. To burn it as fuel, for light and warmth. You have learned to break the world that has tried to break you."
-Brakebills Dean Henry Fogg

For this week's prompt: Respond to the above passage. Do you agree or disagree with Fogg? What do you think of Fogg's assessment? Does this in anyway reflect your own spirituality or magical practices?

Lesser Deities and Demigods @ 01:45 pm

ns_kumiho:

In modern neo-pagan religions well known goods such as Thor, Zeus, Bridget, and Cernunnos get a lot of attention but these famous deities are only a small portion of the deities and spirits ancient pagans venerated.

Do you work with any lesser known deities or spirits? If so who? Tell us about them.

If you currently do not work with any lesser known deities or spirits, make an effort to research a lesser known deity or spirit and write a little about them.

E.x. For instance I venerate and work with Luperca, the She-wolf, and a last Lupercalia I posted a bit about her.
